Walks near Vernet-les-Bains and to Canigou

1 - This short walk takes you from the centre of Vernet into the celebrated 'Belle Epoque' section of the town, well-known to Kipling when he stayed here in 1910, 1911 and 1914. Each stage of the walk is marked by an explanatory notice board (in French, but a translation in English of the text can be obtained from the tourist office and is on this website).

2 - As a extension to this walk, you can follow another short trail, also indicated by notice boards (in French and English), into the 'Winter Garden'. This trail climbs to a rock where it is thought that Kipling gained inspiration for his short story 'Why snow falls at Vernet'.
